I was reading a newsletter on freelancing, of which I follow plenty as there's always some useful article in most of them and I like practical stuff even if it's obvious 80% of the time. The one I was reading was on social media, with some good advice here and there, some very obvious tips on most of it, and then there was something I had stumbled a few times before, and which sent me, well, here.

To ramble to my heart's desire <3 .

You see, one of the advices was about steering clear of sharing stuff on subjects that were touchy or controversial, even if you feel passionate about it, to avoid losing a part of your followers.

I have a love/hate relationship with marketing. I can understand it. I can use it. I am appalled and awed by its efficiency and practicality and consider it almost an invincible tool.

That's why I love it, and why I hate it. We are bombarded with it all the time, forced to deal with the mental pressure and mental work of separating the seaaaa of marketed information we receive into "ok, this I do want/need/is important" from "this is bullshit and someone is just trying to get me to buy their stuff/lie/whatever"

And I do understand that being all smiles and neutral on everything that matters is a good way to keep oneself from being disliked by people who might think differently. Please, we see it happening all the time from politicians, public figures and the like. Smile smile be nice, smile more, say you care, care a looooot, say you are sorry and that you worry if something really big and bad happens, post pictures of cute cats after that, smile again and do nothing about anything. And you won't get on anyone's bad sides like that, at all.

This also, in my opinion, makes you a spineless bastard.

If you believe in something, shout it to the skies, and embrace all that makes you feel passion. What is a greatest joy than that? Who the hell are you if you don't say words you believe in? Don't shy from debate, listen to others points of view, don't be afraid to change your mind if you feel you've been proven wrong, don't be afraid to maintain your position if you feel it's worth defending. Use your brain.

And if you do want to become a cookie-cut figure who smiles and lacks any content in order not to piss off anyone while treating everyone as just a number to add to your friends' list (as if that would be part of being "nice"...) because that will increase your "popularity", then by all means go ahead and do so, ~~coward.~~

(... you would also count as manipulative in that case, but weeeeeeeeell, what's marketing but manipulation?)

All this reminds me to the whole heartless and primordial "appeal to the sense of survival, necessity and sex" one can find on marketing cook-books. Believe me, I do find the beast beautiful, but sometimes it just spouts stuff on how to lose all the blood in your veins, and that's when all the pretty becomes kind of nauseating. >_>

(be prepared for a major ramble in spanish, my dearest readers!)

O cómo los 80s ya terminaron.

Lud fue tan amable de mostrarme (otra) nota más sobre las mujeres como dibujantes. O las dibujantes mujeres. O cuán duro es ser mujer y dibujante. O algo por el estilo. Lloremos juntas, hermanas de género!

(la nota de turno era a Patricia Breccia, si tuviera el link gustosamente lo compartiría, tal vez alguien que esté leyendo esto lo pueda aportar *flutter eyelashes*).

Este tema particular es recurrente, especialmente si una es mujer y dibujante. Alguna persona lo va a preguntar. Porque supuestamente somos pocas, o en un tiempo atrás, muy atrás, antes de mi nacimiento (OHMYGOTH!!), no había ninguna.

Épico, no? Somos como Highlander en rewind.

Lo que pasa, según la mayoría de las personas que escriben ese tipo de notas, es que mis órganos reproductivos me definen de forma absoluta. Todos somos o mujeres, o hombres, y eso nos predetermina completamente a la hora de encarar el papel en blanco. Es más, incluso hace que lo encaremos o no.

Cómo dibuje, lo que dibuje, si dibujo, todo tiene que ver con mi vagina. Pobre vagina, tanta responsabilidad. Según la mayoría de esas personas, también todas las mujeres dibujamos igual, desde las mismas inquietudes, las mismas capacidades.

Si.

Para ser justa, los escritores también parecen indicar lo mismo sobre los hombres.

(no creo que sea necesario que les diga que busquen dos dibujantes del mismo género y se fijen si dibujan igual o no, confío en la capacidad lógica de mis lectores)

Este blog se mantuvo pretty much libre de este tema (aunque sí respondí a esta pregunta en eventos o entrevistas, y la gente que me conoce me escuchó haciendo largos monólogos al respecto), pero hoy por hoy, estoy bastante hasta las bolas -que no tengo- de estas categorizaciones llenas de complejos de inferioridad que no corresponden a la época en la que vivimos.

Debo decir que, en mi experiencia personal, muy pocos dibujantes o guionistas varones argentinos hicieron comentarios negativos sobre mi género en relación a mi trabajo, o hicieron referencia a la (creciente) presencia femenina en el ambiente, o a *mi* presencia en particular ( y seriamente dudo que esta minoría sea una manifestación del "ambiente" o de la """""industria"""", y me parece que es más señal de un problema individual de las personas que los hicieron, y de sus propias inseguridades)

El resto (que son la mayoría) tuvieron la capacidad cerebral necesaria para hablar de dibujo, entablar conversaciones normales entre personas, y en los casos donde el tema era mi obra, de comentar sobre lo que estaba en el papel.

Ahora , a la hora de la actividad profesional en sí, y no la parte social, jamás fue un tema que sea mujer.

Estoy segura que en un par de años, las notas sobre las mujeres en el ambiente van a ser reemplazadas, y con la misma falta de validez, con los gays y lesbianas en el ambiente. Y después con los extranjeros y las minorías étnicas.

*Yo* soy lo que hago, si, y definitivamente me considero que soy muchísimo más que mi género, algo que es aplicable a cualquier persona que esté haciendo algo, independiente de la raza, sexo y religión. Por algo lo creativo está conectado con la auto-expresión.

Un pensamiento básico y que sólo requiere dos minutos de uso cerebral por su obviedad. Dos minutos que los escritores de notas de ese tipo no se tomaron, mientras sí crean sostenes para complejos y categorizaciones divisorias que son limitantes y perjudiciales, y no tienen nada que ver con la actividad creativa en sí.

Pequeños detalles que me gustaría que la gente que se dedica a hacer artículos sobre el tema tomara en consideración antes de empezarlos:

Desde el 47 que las mujeres pueden votar en la Argentina

Desde los 80s que la idea de una mujer dedicándose a algo fuera del hogar está bastante naturalizada y se acerca más a la norma que a las excepciones (gracias Secretaria Ejecutiva y Flashdance)

La Argentina en particular todavía tiene un karma de machismo intrínseco (directo e inverso) que sanar, que se expande a todas las áreas y prácticas.

Por qué no hay tantas mujeres dibujantes en la Argentina, como hombres dibujantes? Por resabios históricos, sociales, y culturales caducos. Fin de la nota, hablemos de otro tema.

CdB arc 1: Yggdrasil

finished the cover for the first arc (maybe, as I've retouched this illu four times already after being "finished"). Now to start with programming :P That's not as fun, damn it.

As for the story, it's not medieval nor epic fantasy like, so don't let the cover fool you!!! Never let the cover fool you! *thunders and lightnings*

(yet the cover is very symbolic in that "wink wink, my allegory is so cool" sort of way. don't be fooled, but all is still connected, everything is, specially in me-land *floats*)

Anyway, webcomic launches on sunday. Because we like to go against the grain, yes, we do.

It will be in english and spanish, for those linguistically puzzled out there. In the meantime, you can still download Brauronian (in english so far) for your comics-reading-enjoyment and have fun with the bears.

No bears in this one, unfortunately. At least not for now.

Hoy contesté un mail donde me preguntaron que materiales recomendaría para entintar. Mi posición sobre cualquier pregunta que incluya materiales es: cualquier material con el cuál uno se sienta cómodo y logre el resultado que busca es un buen material.

Por lo tanto, es una elección subjetiva.

Pero como guía para el que le interese, comparto una lista actualizada de los materiales que estoy usando en este momento para dibujar y entintar:

-lápiz mecánico faber castell grip 1345, con minas (también faber castell) 0,5 HB. Ambos son bastante fáciles de conseguir, y me resultaron mejores que opciones más caras. Cuando se trata de lápices normales, ahí depende bastante de la suerte y de cuál estoy considerando mi preferido en el momento (en este instante es un lápiz que compré de recuerdo en un museo)

- Sobre tintas chinas... trial and error. Si da un negro pleno con facilidad, buy loads!
- Rotring isograph 02, 04 y 06 para entintar. Tinta rotring para recargarlas.
-Microfibras permanentes descartables 08

-La pluma que estoy usando en este momento es una pluma made in china, para manga.
-Para llenar los espacios negros plenos, suelo usar o pincel, o un marcador grueso indeleble de punta redonda y punta cuadrada (siempre tengo varios en casa, porque me duran poco). A veces los lleno directamente en la pc, dependiendo si tengo ganas o no de ver cómo van yendo antes de escannear o no.

After much teasing, enter the brauri!

Brauronian is a conceptual mini-book centred around bears and rituals, which contains comics, illustration and sketches, plus a limited mini-print made specially for it. As most of my solo work, I went nuts with the little details as I like to create a full experience that starts with holding the bookling ^^

I was also incredibly lucky to have the most amazing guest artists (BlueVenom, Cerine and Belicosa) take part in it, to whom I am utterly grateful, as I think the book wouldn't be the same without them.

Thanks to the powers that be, all the books I had made sold out during Crack Bang Boom (thanks to all that got it! hope you liked it!), so it's off at the printer again ^^. For those living in Buenos Aires, there are big chances I'll be attending the Jornadas del Manga y el Anime in two weeks, so you can get it there. International orders will be open some days after that ^^.

As all of the things I self-publish, the run will remain very very small (I won't reprint it once it reaches 100, and the reserved list is kinda large already), so if anyone wants to pre-order it, just let me know.

I am really pleased with the way it came out (it's probably my favourite out of the zines I made), and I hope you enjoy it ^^

Lugar en el mundo? Buenos Aires  
Cuanto tiempo que llevas ilustrando? 8 años  
Cuando te diste cuenta que queria ser ilustrador? Cuando tenía alrededor de cuatro años. Dí muchas vueltas a la hora de darle una aplicación y enfocar las cosas,pero el dibujo fue siempre una constante.  
Que es lo que más te gusta de lo que haces?  La energía creativa, y poder entrar en un estado de inmersión para lograr, idealmente, algo que me mueva.  
Cuales son los problemas más dificiles que te tocan enfrentar al encarar una obra?  Mmh... el trabajo con y para otros y lograr el balance entre satisfacerme a mí misma, y satisfacer a los demás.  
En que te inspiras cuando estas realizando una obra? Mi inspiración mayor viene de la mitología, la antropología y el ritualismo (sex and death and rock and roll). Me interesa muchísimo lograr imágenes agradables estéticamente, con contenido que no entra precisamente en lo agradable ni en lo estético.   
Cuales son tus referentes o a quien admiras?  El diseño gráfico japonés en general, y muchos dibujantes, diseñadores y directores. Kazuma Kaneko si solo tengo que nombrar a uno.  
Que te gusta hacer cuando no estas trabajando?  caminar, conocer gente, viajar.

Tips on drawing monsters

1. look for references of things that you think could be related to your future spawn. Nature is very much your ally here, as everything is sort of creepy. But honest, I think even regular household items can be sent to fucked up land. Feelings and abstract thingies also do wonders as extra ingredients.
2. Conneeect with your inner creepness, whatever it may be. We all know it's there. Wait till you are properly inner-ly unsettled. (this state of mind applies to drawing almost anything, btw, not just monsters)
3. Draw.
4. Until.
5.Your.
6.Drawing
7. Creeps.
8. Yourself.
9.Out.

This is the kind of stuff I always forget to upload. Because, you know, it's the usual stuff you find in a portfolio, and I find it somewhat boring to look at even when it was quite fun to come up with the three different designs and make them move around a bit.

Anyway, I was asked to do this months ago and then it began to gather dust in my hard disk, and I found it like, 5' ago and thought I would share despite of it being typical portfolio stuff.

During the event at the Japanese Gardens I was asked to make a portrait sketch of Virgilio, the main character of Gomorra (one of my books).

I'm still fond of all the characters, and it was really fun to start the day making Mr. Grumpy. So while I waited for closing time, I sketched a rather pissy Jibra for myself.

The requests were all interesting, ranging from biblical and the tarot, to Gomorra-related and CLAMP (that one was hilarious, as I barely remembered the character!)

Will probably do this again on the next event, it was a good way to keep the day flowing and chat with people :D

Este 22 y 23 de Enero Ludeshka, Asphodel y yours truly vamos a estar asistiendo a las Jornadas del Manga y el Ánime en el Jardín Japonés (Buenos Aires). Este año queremos mantener nuestro stand lo más informal posible, asi que están completamente invitados a venir a sentarse y charlar y dibujar con nosotras.

En algún momento de ambos días voy a estar dibujando bocetos a pedido (dudo muchísimo que sean más de cinco por día por cuestiones de tiempo), así que si tienen pensado pasar, pretty please traigan referencias!

I hate that stage.

Hate it with all the hatred of my beating heart, and because my rational self partially understands that stage, I hate it even more.

having said that, this illu is ancient, the black and white version is somewhere in this blog, and this one in particular is a personal take done after much waiting (the one I sent is different and I don't know how it will look like due to some issues with the colours when meeting technicality)

I tried to keep the colouring retro 80's, but it didn't come out as planned. The story of making illustrations.

One tries / wants to do something, then some other thingie completely different follows.

Started writing a (maybe) little experimental novella/novel/short story/the powers that be know what it is. When it comes to its real shape, I have absolutely no idea what it will be considering it has started, thus the experimental (and not because I think I am being particularly original about its undefined format, I find my writing totally traditional and I am personally quite fond of the start-middle-end, that's all, bye bye so long sort of thing)

The characters so far will include my additions to the Freakshow sketchbook (Istvan, the Ringleader and maybe the Dog Man, poor dear), much ero is ensured and new friends, angst and drama will probably follow. But so far there's only a prologue and the name of the first chapter (at least on my .doc file, you only get the prologue for now :P ), so come one, come all and feel more than invited to check it out and comment and all those wonderful things:
